Springtime Walk With Stella

After an overnight frost, it turned out to be a perfect Spring Day. I took a slow walk with Stella over the bridge and on the Rec Path.

Apple blossoms are begining to appear.

We passed by my
favorite birch trees
along the path.

We went off the rec path and over a second bridge onto the trail.

I was happy to spot some spring wild flowers.

April Snow

It's nearly the end of April, and winter wants to linger on. The first snow of the season can be delightful, but end of the season snow has a beauty all its own - and we know it's not going to last.

Brrrrr...

Yesterday it was 27 degrees F.  Next week, according to the forecast, it will be in the 70's F. Time to pack away the winter clothing. We'll be leaping into warm days ahead!

New Life, New Buds

The other day it was unseasonably warm in Vermont. I took a walk outside to look at our gardens.

What a joy to see signs of new life, after a long COVID winter. By mid-May, this tree will be covered with white blossoms.

Buds on tree branches

I've learned not to pull out the last of the kale plants in Autumn. So already I am beginning to see new growth this season, way before I'll be getting new kale seeds in the ground. The first kale leaf is emerging.

Daffodils have a way of increasing and multiplying. Each year I have more of them from the few I've planted years ago.

Two daffodil buds among many leaves

Last year I had a "mystery plant" growing in the garden, something I did not plant but somehow sprung up from the soil. It turned out to be a hybrid of delicata squash. This year there's another mystery plant. There are about five of them in the bed. To me they look like strawberry plants, but could be some kind of weed. Time will tell. Maybe strawberries were in the compost? or the birds dropped them on the soil last year? Mystery!

And one more bud - this one from indoors. It's on one of the tomato plants in my Aerogarden. The plants are covered with blossoms, so I hope to have cherry tomatoes before long. Even without the tomatoes, it's been fun watching the plants growing indoors while many of the days outside have been pretty bleak.

 Spring has truly arrived!
